Subacute Treatment for Brain Injury

Once your child is stabilized, he will enter the subacute phase of treatment. This phase will last until the child either returns to the home and community, or enters a long-term care facility.
The subactute treatment phase generally takes place at an inpatient rehabilitation facility, and is designed to help minimize the long-term effects of the injury and help your child return to maximum function. Depending upon the extent and severity of the injury, as well as your child’s rate of progress, this phase can last for as little as a couple of weeks or as long as a year or even more. Once this phase is complete, the child will be released from the rehabilitation facility, and either sent home or to a long-term care facility.
