What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?
EFT is a form of psychological acupressure that is used to restore your emotional health. EFT is easy to learn and can help with things like: removing negative emotions, reducing or eliminating pain and implementing positive goals. It is based on using electromagnetic energy which flows through your body to help regulate your health. This technique has only recently started becoming recognized in Western Medicine.
EFT is based on the same energy areas (also called “meridians”) used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional problems-but unlike traditional acupuncture, EFT does not involve needles. Instead it’s all in the fingertips. You simply tap your fingertips onto specific “meridians” on your head and chest while saying positive statements (or “affirmations”) and thinking about your specific problem-i.e. a traumatic event, pain etc.
The combination of tapping the energy meridians and speaking positive statements helps to clear the emotional block from your body, and also helps to restore balance to your body and mind. If you are not getting the results you had hoped for, you can consult with an EFT doctor. To find a practitioner and to view some EFT videos click here.
What are the proper ways for EFT Tapping
EFT is pretty straightforward and usually only takes minutes to learn, but it is important that you make sure you are tapping the right “meridian” area. in the fingertips
The correct way is to tap with your index finger and middle finger (use only one hand at a time-both hands work the same). Most tapping points exist of both sides of the body so it doesn’t matter which side you use, and it doesn’t matter if you switch sides of the body during tapping. You should tap firmly, but not too hard that you hurt yourself (you should also use your fingertips and not the pads of your fingers because your finger tips have more “meridian” points).
Where are the “meridian” points that I will tap?
Below are the tapping points. They proceed down the body, but the order you do them in is not critical-you can tap the points in any order as long as each point is covered (it is just easier to go from top to bottom so you remember to tap each area). You will tap each area about 5-7 times (each tap should be the length of one full breath), while saying a positive statement (or affirmations). To read more about the affirmations click here.
